Bishop John Kirby celebrates the 60th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood on Friday 23rd June with Mass in St Michael Church, Cappataggle at 6.00 pm, followed by tea or coffee and light refreshments in the Community Centre. All parishioners are welcome. Interestingly, following the death of Pope John XXIII, Cardinal Giovanni Battista Montini was elected as Pope Paul VI two days earlier on 21st June 1963 and was formally installed on 30th June 1963, while Mgr Thomas Ryan was named as the Bishop of Clonfert in May 1963 and ordained three weeks later on 14th July 1963. Thus, in a matter of a few weeks in Summer 1963, Clonfert received a new pope, a new bishop and a new priest!
